Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi urged the European Union to take note of the current escalating situation in Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK).

While speaking to the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini in a telephonic conversation on Thursday, FM said India's unilateral action to change the special constitutional status of occupied Kashmir is a violation of the UN Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

Qureshi likely to leave for Beijing to discuss Kashmir

He said that the revocation of Articles 35-A and 370 is an attempt by the Indian government to change the demography of IoK.

"India is neither abiding by international treaties nor is it ready to respect bilateral agreements," said the foreign minister adding that the international community should press India to uphold international law and resolve the Kashmir issue under UNSC resolutions and according to the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

"India has threatened peace and stability of  South Asia by this irresponsible act and that Pakistan is taking the matter to the United Nations," he was quoted as saying.

Pakistan, he added, will continue to provide diplomatic, political and moral support to the Kashmiris.

He also condemned the gross human rights violations being committed, including the killings of innocents, in occupied Kashmir and urged the international community to take notice and help curb  Indian aggression.

Mogherini replied saying that EU has been keeping an eye on the ongoing situation and believes that dialogue should be held for settlement of the bilateral issues.

Both the leaders agreed to jointly work and maintain bilateral contacts for peace and stability in the region.
