ISLAMABAD: Human Rights Minister Dr Shireen Mazari has written a letter to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet to draw her attention to India’s use of cluster bombs along the Line of Control (LoC) and serious human rights violations in the Indian occupied Kashmir (IOK).

“Indian state terrorism and attacks are a violation of the international human rights laws and agreements. Violations and attacks by India have increased after the UN published report on 14th of June 2018 regarding human rights violations in Kashmir,” she said.

Mazari asked the UN high commissioner for human rights to remind India about its responsibilities to uphold international laws and to ask it to refrain from attacking unarmed citizens.

She urged the UN Human Rights Council to form an inquiry commission in the disputed valley of Kashmir and undertake an independent and comprehensive investigation into the human rights violation there.

Mazari asked the UN official to take notice of the Indian aggression against unarmed citizens, the Indian army’s increasing actions and state terrorism.

Dr Shireen Mazari also strongly condemned India's repealing special status of the IOK through a presidential order. The special status was enshrined in Article-370 of the Indian Constitution.

Dr Mazari said Indian move to revoke special constitutional status of the IOK is against all norms and international law along with United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

She said Kashmir is recognised as disputed territory in the UNSC resolutions and India cannot alter the IOK status through its parliament. Mazari said the International Court of Justice as well as the UNSC and other international forums including human rights organisations must be moved immediately.

“Kashmir is illegally annexed with India and IOK is a disputed and occupied territory,” she further said.
