PESHAWAR: A few hours of rain turned the roads of provincial capital Peshawar in to flowing sewers.

The choked sewerage system of the city started spewing filthy water on roads when clouds brought down monsoon spell.

The rain caused havoc for people who were left stranded on flooded roads. The worst hit areas were University Road, Charsadda Road and provincial assembly intersection which has turned into a pond.

Owing to inundated roads, vehicles were moving slowly while some got stranded causing a massive traffic jam in city centre.

“Isolated heavy falls may generate flash flooding in Battagram, Torghar, Shangla and Mansehra districts, while land sliding in the vulnerable areas of these districts cannot be ruled out,” said a statement from the Pakistan Metrological Office.

Heavy rain and thunder storms were recorded in Abbottabad, Mansehra, Battagram, Kohistan, Haripur, Torghar, Malakand, Chitral, Bajaur, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Bunner, Swat, Shangla, Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Charsadda and Nowshera districts, while at isolated places in Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Kurram, Orakzai, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, North Waziristan, DI Khan, Tank and South Waziristan districts.
