Sanofi-Aventis, AKUH sign MoU

The initiative intends to lower the financial burden on patients and would allow access to Sanofi’s oncology product

KARACHI: Sanofi-Aventis Pakistan Limited and the Patients’ Behbud Society (PBS) at the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Friday for a ‘Patient Access Program’ which would support patients of breast, prostate and head and neck cancers. The initiative intends to lower the out-of-pocket financial burden on patients and would allow access to Sanofi’s oncology product. “Ensuring equitable access for all is a complex challenge,” said Sanofi Pakistan Managing Director Asim Jamal. He added that Sanofi, as a global healthcare company, and PBS, an independent charitable organisation responsible for collection and distribution of Zakat, were collaborating to increase access to cancer therapy at AKUH for mustehiq [eligible] patients. Pakistan has the highest incidence of cases of breast cancer among Asian countries and an increasing number of patients with prostate and head and neck cancers.
