World Breastfeeding Week starts today

Dr Nadeem Raza Malik says special counters will be set up in all govt hospitals of Bhakkar district

BHAKKAR: To encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies around the world, World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated from August 1 to 7.

Bhakkar Integrated Reproductive Maternal Neonatal Child Health and Nutrition Programme (IRMNCH & NP) District Coordinator Dr Nadeem Raza Malik told The Express Tribune that World Breastfeeding Week is being celebrated in the district as well. He added all arrangements had been completed in this respect.

He said that in Bhakkar, lady health workers have been given a special task to visit families and talk to them about the importance of breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding saves lives: experts

Dr Raza added that during the seven days, special counters will be set up in all government hospitals of Bhakkar district. He added trained staff of the health department will be available to meet women and guide them if they have any queries regarding breastfeeding.

Health Department Bhakkar CEO Dr Sheikh Mohammed Saeed said that breastfeeding is the child’s first right.
