KARACHI: A severe water crisis gripped the city on Monday as power supply was suspended to Dhabeji Pumping Station after heavy rains lashed the area. This led to the suspension of water supply to the city.

Although the pumping station was hit by intermittent outages since early morning, a prolonged breakdown in the afternoon paralysed the water supply system.

The central pumping station provides water to more than 80% of the areas of Karachi, but owing to power outages, the supply was suspended, while all the areas of the city have been severely affected. Karachi Water and Sewerage Board officials have asked citizens to use water cautiously.

The KWSB spokesperson said that 350 million gallons of water could not be provided to Karachi owing to the power outage. Electricity supply to the Dhabeji and Gharo pumping station could be restored until the filing of this report.
