JAKARTA:

Pakistan boxers punched their way into the quarter-finals of the 21st President’s Cup International Boxing Tournament in style.

While, South Asian Games bronze medallist Aamir Khan knocked down Indonesian boxer Deni Hutasoit in the first round of his bout, flyweight boxer and Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Muhammad Waseem outpunched Reza Korzbori of Iran 22-6 in his pre-quarterfinal match.

Indonesia’s Dadan Amanda, however, got the better of the third Pakistani playing today, as Syed Muhammad Hussain was defeated 30-10.

The 64-kg light-welterweight bout between Khan and Hutasoit turned out to be the fight of the day. The 20-year-old from Lyari, floored his rival with a deadly punch within the first two minutes of the match. In the first minute, Khan’s combination of left and right punches clearly disoriented his opponent forcing the referee to make a mandatory count.

Hutasoit, however, was able to recover, but as soon as the bout resumed, a lethal punch floored him for good. Khan next faces Russain Malinin Alexander.
