Trump lauds PM Imran’s vision for peace in Asia, says FO

The Foreign Office (FO) on Thursday said bilateral relations between Pakistan and the United States have been reset after Prime Minister Imran Khan’s successful three-day visit to Washington to meet US President Donald Trump, Radio Pakistan reported.

While addressing the media, FO Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal stated that during the high-level moot, the two leaders agreed to strengthen their partnership to bring peace and economic stability in South Asia.

They also decided to improve the potential of sectors including trade, defence and security.

The FO added that President Trump lauded PM Imran’s vision for peace in Asia and offered to mediate in talks with India regarding the Kashmir issue, a gesture Faisal said has been welcomed by Islamabad.

He regretted that India has not shown willingness to accept the US president's offer.

The FO also talked of the premier's brief stopover at Doha on his return from Washington. The prime minister was welcomed by his counterpart, Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Responding to a question regarding recent Line of Control (LOC) violations by the Indian forces, the spokesperson said Pakistan had stressed upon the resident India diplomat to ensure that New Delhi follows the 2003 Ceasefire Agreement.

About the Kartarpur Corridor, the FO expressed confidence that the third round of talks will be held soon.

Referring to the Afghanistan conflict, he said that Pakistan is facilitating the issue – which has been acknowledged by the US.
