President Zardari to attend Shanghai summit

President Asif Ali Zardari is scheduled to visit Tashkent to participate in the 10th Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation.

President Asif Ali Zardari will attend the 10th Summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Tashkent on June 10-11, foreign office said on Wednesday.

SCO, a regional organization has brought together China, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan & Uzbekistan. Pakistan was granted observer status in 2005.

SCO seeks to promote peace and stability in the region. Combating terrorism, extremism and organized crime received greater attention by SCO in recent years.

President Zardari will address the SCO summit and likely to meet presidents of Uzbekistan, China, Russia and other leaders.

His participation in the summit reflects immense importance that Pakistan attaches to further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with countries of Eurasian region, particularly in promoting pace, stability and development.
