PESHAWAR: While high-achieving students are awarded for best results, the provincial government on Tuesday also awarded the schools, principals, teachers and education officials in a bid to encourage their performance in achieving better results.

In this regard, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan handed out certificates and cash awards at a specially-organised ceremony at the Chief Minister House on Tuesday.

During the event, Mahmood stated that for the first time a result of 72% had been achieved in the annual matriculation examinations in government-run schools this year.

Over 150,000 students to repeat exams

This, he pointed out, was evidence of the provincial government’s efforts to focus on development in the education sector.

He added that every year, the Independent Monitoring Unit (IMU) of the province — which tabulates performance of schools and learning outcomes on a monthly basis — picks the best performing schools, principals, District Education Officers (DEOs), Teachers and students who are then awarded recognition certificates and cash awards.

Reiterating that reforms in the education and health sector were the top-most priority of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led provincial government, Mahmood assured his complete cooperation to the education department in terms of timely availability of funds for development projects.
