CPO orders inquiry into Murree parking lot shootout

RAWALPINDI: A proclaimed offender accused of double murder in the famous 2018 Judicial Complex shooting case was caught when he landed at Islamabad International Airport (IIA).

Arshad Langra, who had escaped to UAE after the shootout, was nominated in over 50 cases of robbery, rape and murder. His name was present on the blacklist available to law enforcing and intelligence agencies of the country.

When Langra landed from a flight, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) sleuths got an alert and immediately detained him. FIA then handed over the suspect to police.

SP Potohar Division Syed Ali briefed the City Police Officer Muhammad Faisal Rana, that two people had been killed in Judicial Complex Rawalpindi in 2018 during a shootout between two feuding gangs.

Police had brought Mateeullah Faheem to court for the hearing when his rivals attacked him.

Matees supporters also pulled out pistols and started shooting. When the gun smoke cleared, Matee and one of the attackers, Sattar Khan lay dead.

The incident had caused an uproar over the security arrangements at courts.

The case was registered in Civil Lines police station under sections of 7 ATA anti-terrorism acts, murder and other relevant clauses.

The arrest of Langra is a big accomplishment of the Rawalpindi police, and many heinous crimes will be traced by that.

CPO Rana commended the SP Potohar and their team over the arrest of the dangerous proclaimed offender; saying that all the cases registered against the accused in various police stations must be investigated accordingly including the double murder case.

And arrests should be made of all other accused and facilitators for their involvement in the criminal activities of Arshad Langra. The CPO said that we must nab every proclaimed offender and present them to face justice that will decrease the chances of crimes. The community has appreciated the accomplishment of Rawalpindi Police in this regard; saying that the approach Rawalpindi Police is taking under efficient command of CPO Faisal Rana, to apprehend dangerous criminals and eradicate crimes by utilizing modern technologies, is producing positive results already in very short time in shape of the good progress and arrests of heinous absconders and proclaimed offenders.

Murree gunfight

City Police Officer Rawalpindi Muhammad Faisal Rana has taken stern notice of the firing incident between clashing groups in hotel's parking in Murree, directions issued for SP Saddar to conduct an inquiry. A case has been registered in Murree Police Station regarding the incident in which police have arrested four suspects accused.

According to details, the firing incident that occurred in a hotel's parking in Murree last night between two groups GSF group and Boxer group; the CPO Rawalpindi Muhammad Faisal Rana taking immediate notice of it, ordered senior officers to reach on the spot, whereas this morning the CPO summon the relevant officers first thing in the morning and inquired them for the progress report so far regarding the incident.

The CPO was briefed that the incident did not take place inside the hotel but outside in the parking area. It was completely a case of personal animosity and old rivalry, the case has been registered in Murree police station for attempted murder charges and other sections.

The police responded right away to the scene and arrested accused Abdul Wahab, Saddam, Muhammad Waqas and Nabeel Waheed, who were being interrogated. Whereas police were carrying out raids to arrest other involved accused.

The CPO while appointing the SP Saddar as an inquiry officer; ordered for a thorough investigation of the matter how firearms were moved inside a hotel's parking and what is the checking management for the vehicles inbound for Murree.

“The very presence of firearms in an internationally renowned picnic place like Murree is unbearable,” the police chief said. He said that if any police officer's negligence is noticed during the inquiry process than the said officers will face strict departmental action.

The CPO also said that it must be reviewed if there's any negligence on the part of the hotel's management, and to take appropriate legal action against all responsible according to the law.

The police chief said that the department will not let anyone threaten the respected tourists in Murree. “We must protect the lives and property of the tourists to ensure that tourists can enjoy their stay in peace and calm.” He directed SP Saddar to place pro-active safety measures so that to eradicate the probability of incidents like these in the future.

The CPO also issued directions for SP Saddar for daily briefing regarding security arrangements for tourists, and if any resources are required in this regard, that'll be provided accordingly.
