K-P sports officials want no compromises on national games

Secretary reviews construction activities at Peshawar Sports Complex

PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Sports Secretary Kamran Rehman on Sunday inspected preparations for the 33rd National Games at the Peshawar Sports Complex, which will be held in Peshawar later this year.

During his visit, inspected the hockey ground, the swimming pool, under construction Qamar Zaman Squash Complex, the gymnastics facility, badminton hall and athletics track. He added that there will be no compromise on the quality of work in preparing for the national games. Moreover, he directed that all possible facilities must be provided to the players.

Speaking to the media, Rehman said that the provincial government had increased the overall budget for the subject, with Rs5.5 billion, has been allocated for the construction of various sports facilities across the province, including in the newly-merged tribal districts.

Over the past six years, he said that more than 130 grounds have been built at the district level, while the government has chalked out a comprehensive plan to build 1,000 playing facilities across the province, including Sports Complexes in each divisional headquarters with all indoor facilities.

Rehman said that they were taking steps to provide playing field facilities at the Tehsil and Union Council level as well. Moreover, he said that Rs480 million has been allocated for upgrading the Peshawar Sports Complex, Rs132.76 million for the construction of a sports complex near Chamkani, Rs180 million for upgrading the Mardan Sports Complex, Rs80 million on laying a hockey turf in Swat, Rs600 million for building sports facilities at divisional headquarters and Rs96 million for the promotion of water sports in K-P.
