According to sources, the meeting of the district price control committee was held on Saturday which was not attended by the deputy commissioner (DC). Therefore, the meeting was chaired by additional deputy commissioner general who left the prices to be fixed at the discretion of whole-sellers.

Representatives of naanbais, butchers, milkmen were not even invited to the meeting. The committee reviewed prices of various daily use items including utensils, meat, dairy items etc.

However, the committee let whole-sellers decide the prices of wheat and concluded that a shopkeeper would be allowed to earn a profit of Rs30 per flour bag on whatever prices were set.

The committee announced the same scheme for oil and sugar prices where the shopkeepers would be allowed to keep a profit margin of Rs3.
