Brienne of Tarth actor from 'GoT' nominated herself for an Emmy and actually got it!

"Maybe you were as good as people said... once. Or maybe people just love to overpraise a famous name."

Brienne of Tarth from the mega-hit HBO series Game of Thrones (GoT) was the true underdog who rose to the top. Now Gwendoline Christie, the actor who plays the lady warrior, is undergoing a similar experience in real-life, sending social media ablaze.

Fans went crazy when news hit that the GoT favourite submitted herself and received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of the fierce female knight living in the patriarchal world of Westeros, reported HuffPost.

Some took to Twitter to shower the 40-year-old with tons of love, while others condemned HBO for the oversight. "If she hadn't put herself forward for the category, she wouldn't even be nominated, which is absolutely absurd" one user commented.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed with HBO that the network did not submit Christie for consideration. The network also did not enter Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy) or Carice van Houten (Melisandre), who also received Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series, respectively. The actors’ representatives confirmed that the trio went ahead and paid their own $225 fees to be considered.

However, HBO did submit Kit Harington (Jon Snow) in the lead actor race, as well as Queen of Dragons Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen). Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jamie Lannister) and Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) were also nominated in the supporting actors category and Lena Headey, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams' names were also submitted. All of them ended with nominations, adding to the network’s record-breaking 137 total.

But what makes Christie slay so hard is the fact that it is rare to actually receive a nomination after an actor submits themselves for it.
