LAHORE: A judicial magistrate has extended the 14-day judicial remand of six suspects, including PML-N Punjab President Rana Sanaullah, for allegedly smuggling 15 kilograms of heroin.

The Anti-Narcotics Force failed to produce the case file before magistrate Ahmed Waqas, despite proceedings being adjourned for at least two hours. Moreover, the ANF could not submit the challan despite the court’s orders.

As proceedings commenced, Rana Sanaullah’s lawyer, Advocate Syed Farhad Ali Shah, slammed the ANF for failing to produce the case file. Advocate Farhad told the court that ANF lacked evidence against his client and that was the reason it was unable to produce the case file.

Judge Waqas asked ANF to outline the reasons for this delay in producing the case file. When the force was unable to provide a satisfactory reply, the judge remarked that he would not hear the case until the file was produced.

Proceedings were adjourned for two hours and the ANF claimed it would produce the case file at the end of this period. Later, a law officer appeared before the court and said the file was with the special investigation team that was probing the matter. He assured the court that the file would be produced on the next date of hearing.

Advocate Farhad Shah told the court that the ANF had completely failed to produce the case file, despite repeated orders. He was at a loss to understand the reasons for this development. Finally, the judge ordered ANF to produce case file and submit the challan by July 29.

Earlier, ANF’s officials produced the suspects, including PML-N’s Rana Sanaullah, Muhammad Akram, Sibtain Haider, Usman Ahmed, Asim Rustam and Umar Farooq, amid strict security measures.
