As heavy monsoon rainfall lashed Lahore with its streets giving a Venetian look on Tuesday, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar came to the rescue by giving a lift to stranded women and children.

In a video which has now gone viral on the internet, the chief minister is driving around in his car inspecting the havoc caused by the downpour.

"Where do you want to go? Get in fast," he is seen asking women and children who have water up to their knees.

The video was uploaded by his spokesperson Shahbaz Gill on Twitter.

The monsoon rains caused heavy flooding on the roads and suburban areas of Punjab's capital city.

The rain restricted citizens to their homes in the metropolis while in several areas rainwater entered houses.

While residents were irked as the downpour caused traffic jams on the main arteries of the city, electricity breakdowns were also reported from many parts of Lahore.

Until Tuesday night, 150 millimeters of rains was recorded in the Punjab capital.

The roofs of houses also collapsed with Jinnah Hospital's roof letting water into the medical care facility.
