Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Faisal Rana summoned senior police officials at the CPO camp office on Sunday. During the meeting, the CPO was told that Chauntara SHO Inspector Malik Naeem had been accused of having ties with members of the infamous encroachment mafia. As a result, a large part of the land within his jurisdiction was under illegal occupation.
Rana asked Saddar SP about this who confirmed the information. As a result, CPO ordered to suspended Inspector Naeem.
During the meeting, the CPO stated that being the commander of the Rawalpindi Police, he could not even imagine that there could be a link between a police officer and criminal elements.
He stated that strict action, which could even lead to dismissal from the job, will be taken against the suspended official if he was found guilty of charges.
Police still clueless about major suicide blasts in Lahore
Rana directed all divisional SPs to keep an eye on the conduct of their junior officers. Furthermore, any evidence against black sheep in the department must be brought to his knowledge. He announced that corrupt police officials will not be tolerated in the department for even a second.
This is fourth SHOs to have been suspended under the departmental accountability process this month.
Couple abused
An armed man allegedly broke into a house and abused a family in Ashraf Town, which falls under the jurisdiction of Khanna police station. Muhammad Suleman told the police that earlier in the day, he had a quarrel with a man named Baki Zaman. Later, the suspect returned with a pistol and broke into his house. The suspect held Suleman and his wife hostage at gunpoint.
Zaman struck the victims with the butt of the pistol and even tore the clothes of the women.
The police have registered a case after the medico-legal report. The police, though, have yet to arrest the suspect.
Gamblers arrested
Tarnol police busted a gambling den and arrested five suspects near Sangjiani neighbourhood. The police received a tip-off that a gambling den was being run openly in Abid’s tent after which the raid was made.
The police recovered stake money worth Rs70,000, mobile phones, cars’ registration papers and motorbikes from the spot.
Inter-provincial gang arrested
The Rawalpindi police have arrested an inter-provincial gang who was allegedly involved in murder and robbery.
During a news conference, Saddar division SP Raye Mazhar said that last year, shopkeepers Tahir and Abrar were travelling in their car along with three other people in Kallar Syedan. They were intercepted by unidentified suspects who had set up a picket on the road. The suspects attempted looted cash and other valuables from them.
But when the car’s occupants resisted, the suspects allegedly shot them. As a result, Tahir died on the spot while Abrar was seriously injured.
Police hold flag march ahead of polls
SP Mazhar said that it was a challenging case for the police as no one had any clue about the suspects.
He said that the CPO had summoned a list of pending cases as soon as he assumed the charge and this case was also included. He added the CPO formed a team under his supervision and tasked them to trace the suspects.
The SP said that they utilised modern technology and managed to track down Abdul Rehman in Sahiwal. It was later discovered that he was the ringleader of an inter-provincial gang called “Rehmana Dacoit Gang”.
He told that the police that they used to murder people for putting up resistance during robberies. Upon further investigation, he told the police the whereabouts of three of his gang members including Shoaib, Junaid and Sharif.
