PESHAWAR: With corrupt practices of land record officials allegedly causing problems for the general public apart from being a source of several cases in courts, the provincial chief executive on Friday directed the district administration to crack down on corrupt officials.

This was directed by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan while chairing a meeting on public issues in Peshawar.

Mahmood noted that public grievances and complaints lodged by provincial MPAs against undue interferences of ‘patwaris’ (land revenue officials) in land cases were growing.

The CM was briefed about different issues of Peshawar, especially in the health and education sectors. He stated that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led government was working to uplift and develop the provincial capital further.

In this regard, he directed the Water and Sanitation Services of Peshawar (WSSP) to resolve complaints and issues relating to sanitation on a priority basis.

To clean the city, Mahmood stated that they will operate a second shift in WSSP.

Action against corrupt govt officials

He further directed the Peshawar district administration to hold monthly meetings with elected MPAs of the provincial capital to discuss issues of the city. Further, Mahmood said that pragmatic steps should be taken to ensure the development and beautification of the provincial capital.

He agreed, in principle, with a proposal to periodically reshuffle clerical staff in the education and health departments.

Further, he directed the education department to follow the government’s policy regarding transfers and postings of teachers.

The Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) was directed to complete all ongoing schemes in the district. The authority was assured that all obstacles which were preventing the timely completion of ongoing developmental projects will be removed on a priority basis.

He added that the early completion of ongoing schemes in Peshawar was a top priority of the provincial government and that all possible resources will be provided for this purpose.

Govt to launch crackdown on corrupt FBR officials

CM Mahmood directed all public representatives to undertake a comprehensive study, identifying missing facilities at the Basic Health Units (BHUs) and Rural Health Centres (RHCs) of Peshawar so that funds may be allocated accordingly.

To reduce the burden of patients on the tertiary care hospitals of the city, the chief minister said that a separate emergency and trauma centre will be established soon which will be used to provide medical treatment. This facility, Mahmood said, will act as a referral facility for major hospitals.

Discussing the issue of property tax for multi-storey buildings, the chief minister assured that it will be resolved by a committee which had been constituted for this particular purpose while a uniform policy in this regard will be implemented throughout the entire district.

The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Health Minister Dr Hasham Inamullah, Special Assistant to the CM Kamran Bangash, MPAs from Peshawar, administrative secretaries of the relevant department, DG PDA, Chief Executive WSSP, Director Education, Deputy Commissioner Peshawar, DG health, EDO education and others.
