However, all this criticism did not affect Kabir Singh’s footfall in theatres and it emerged as the most successful Bollywood blockbuster of the year. As the film entered the INR2 billion club, it surpassed the box office collection garnered by Vicky Kaushal’s Uri: The Surgical Strike, reported Hindustan Times.
As it now inches closer to the INR2.5 billion mark, the film has managed to break four big records of all time in just 20 days. “Kabir Singh emerges the highest grossing Hindi film of 2019. Inches closer to the INR2.5 billion mark. Total: INR2.46 billion. All time blockbuster,” tweeted trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Uri’s collection stands at INR2.45 billion
1. 10th biggest Hindi hit of all time
Kabir Singh has gained the spot of the 10th biggest Hindi hit in the history of Indian cinema. Baahubali 2 still remains the highest-grosser with a collection of INR51 billion since its release in 2017. Next up is the Aamir Khan-starrer Dangal with an accumulated total of INR38.7 billion followed by Rajkummar Hirani’s Sanju, which currently holds a sum of INR34.2 billion. Films including PK, Padmaavat and Dhoom 3 are also currently ahead of Kabir Singh in terms of box office collections.
2. Shahid Kapoor’s biggest solo hit
While the largest success of Shahid’s career is still Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, which gathered INR5.85 billion worldwide, Kabir Singh has given the actor his biggest solo hit. The success of Padmaavat was mainly credited to actors Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. But it should be noted that Shahid is now the fourth actor with more than one film on the top 10 list. Salman Khan, Anushka Sharma and Aamir Khan have three, two and three films, respectively, on the list.
3. Second biggest film of 2019 in India
Kabir Singh has also broken the record of being the second biggest film of 2019 in India. It has still not been able to overtake the collections of Marvel juggernaut Avengers: Endgame in the country.
4. Fastest Hindi film to enter INR2 billion club
Lastly, the film has gained the recognition of becoming the fastest Hindi movie to cross the INR2 billion mark in 2019. It entered the club in just 13 days of its run at the domestic box office. The film achieved this feat quicker than Salman’s Bharat and Vicky’s The Surgical Strike.
