Saudi Arabia to construct airport in Makkah city

Airport project will facilitate pilgrims arriving in the holy city

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will construct an airport in Makkah city to facilitate pilgrims arriving in the country, reported by Saudi Gazette 

Emir of Makkah and Advisor to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Prince Khaled Al-Faisal announced the allotment of land to build the airport in the holy city on Tuesday.

The new airport will be connected to Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport in collaboration with the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA). 

During the ceremony, Prince Khaled mentioned the signing of agreements and memoranda of cooperation for the Al-Faisaliah project in the presence of Makkah Deputy Emir Prince Badr Bin Sultan and chairman of Saudi Real Estate General Authority Muhammad Al-Jadaan.

The prince also highlighted the importance of the project and said: "The project is designed to provide job opportunities in various sectors including health, education and technology".

The airport project is in line with the kingdom's vision 2030 and falls within the framework of collaborated efforts to attain sustainable progress, he added.

It will also include a port and will also house all government authorities in Makkah. Many other tourism and entertainment projects will be established on the waterfront.

The Makkah Region Development Authority (MRDA) will look after the project, which will be constructed on an area 2,450 square kilometer.
