But the latest scandal over Kabir Singh has come from its director Sandeep Vanga's unprecedented comments over 'slapping women.' Sultan star Kubbra Sait has joined many fan and actors criticising the film-maker for defending a controversial scene wherein Shahid's character slaps his lady love when father refuses to marry them, reported Hindustan Times.
Vanga, during an interview with film critic Anupama Chopra, was asked about the allegations of toxic masculinity in his film. He replied, “When you are deeply in love and deeply connected to a woman (and vice versa), if you don’t have the liberty of slapping each other, then I don’t see anything there.”

This statement has irked many, especially Sait. Sharing a video, the Sacred Games star tweeted, “This is what love will look like if men and women are taught that slapping is being emotional.”

In a slow-motion video, Sait and film-maker Goldie Behl are seen on a dim-lit terrace, slapping each other with their hands covered with oven mittens. In another video she shared hours later, Sait slaps herself on the face and says, “If you can’t slap yourself, you haven’t really love yourself.”

A hoard of Twitter users took to social media to supper the actor and her sentiments over Vanga's comments. One wrote, "It's galling but not entirely surprising to see that there are 11.5k tweets favouring this really dreadful hashtag. Some tweets directed towards Kubbra Sait were so distasteful! Props to her for dealing with it like a total boss."

Despite this, there has been a movement supporting the director using the hashtag #WeSupportSandeepReddyVanga. Many have said his comments are justified and "a consequential expression of passionate love."

But Sait was having none of it. She maintained that she doesn't agree with "this school of love" and that she will "leave the person who passionately slaps her outside the door."

However, he claimed he was misquoted in the interview. “You took me completely wrong. It’s not assault. When you’re so close to each other, when you can’t handle your worst thing with each other, and you don’t have the liberty of showing your worst side. The worst thing is not like ‘iss din daaru peeke aake maar raha hai [He is getting drunk and beating the woman up one day]'. It’s about the liberty of the expression between a couple who is deeply connected. It works for a woman also and it works for a man also. I spoke for both the sides."
