Deceased was a former MPA in Sindh Assembly, served in PML-N, PPP

KARACHI: Senior politician Shafi Muhammad Jamot passed away on Sunday after having been in the hospital for a few days due to an ailment. The former Sindh Assembly lawmaker had been affiliated with both the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) during the course of his political career.

The former MPA, belonging to the Ibrahim Hyderi constituency, had joined the PML-N after he won the seat in PS-129 constituency in the 2013 general elections. In the same general polls, he lost the election in NA-258 constituency. Shafi's first term as a Sindh Assembly MPA began in 1977.

The senior politician had also served as Karachi district council chairperson from 1979 to 1983 and from 1987 to 1992. Besides, he was an initial member of the port city's Fishermen Society and served as a member of the Standing Committee on Livestock and Fisheries.

The former MPA was the father of PPP leader Jam Alam Jamot and father-in-law of PPP parliamentarian Abdul Qadir Patel.

Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Information, Law and Anti-corruption Barrister Murtaza Wahab expressed his condolence, in a statement issued on Sunday, over the demise of Jamot. Wahab said that the deceased had served the people of Malir district and that his services for humanity would always be remembered. The adviser extended his condolence to the bereaved family.
