Search for remaining boat tragedy victims continues

As district administration and Shangla police provides details of their identities

HARIPUR: Rescue efforts for 17 victims, including women and children, of Tarbela boat tragedy continued on Thursday as district administration and Shangla police provided details of their identities.

Local experts, Army SSG commandos and divers from nearby districts were all taking part in the search and rescue work.

At least four people drowned and 15 others were rescued after a boat carrying around 40 passengers capsized in Tarbela Lake in the Barg Dabderi area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Haripur district on Wednesday.

The boat overturned at around 1pm and the rescue operation was suspended till Thursday morning due to poor visibility.

The boat was en route to Haripur from the Dedal Kamach area of Shangla when it overturned in Burg Dabderi village in the Union Council Nara Amazai.

Most of the passengers were residents of nearby villages. There are conflicting reports about the number of passengers on the boat.
