RAWALPINDI: In order to ensure smooth flow of water and saving areas from getting submerged, the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) began the cleaning of all 11 storm drains that open in Nullah Leh.

The teams under RMC Infrastructure Officer Rafaqat Hayat Gondal cleared all the drains in Javed Colony yesterday. The drains were cleared using heavy machinery.

The sources in RMC said that during the forthcoming monsoon season, it would be ensured that none of the areas became flooded during the monsoon.

A number of the city’s interior areas get flooded in monsoon season due to establishment of illegal encroachments on them.

Dengue awareness campaign

An awareness campaign against dengue has been launched in Rawalpindi.

The drive, jointly run by Waste Management Company (WMC) and Al-Baraik Company, went to Union Council (UC) 30 and told the citizens that dengue could be prevented by keeping our surroundings clean. They added that all the waste should be disposed in dustbins and also emphasised that the citizens take measures to prevent water stagnation as it becomes a breeding ground for dengue mosquitoes.

They expressed that the city could be made dengue-free through joint efforts. Moreover, they added that people should not be afraid of dengue but instead should fight against it.
