LAHORE: The Environment Protection Department (EPD) sealed sixteen factories in Gujranwala for contributing to pollution, said EPD Deputy Director Usman Azhar in a statement issued on Monday. The factories that were sealed were harming the environment and were contributing to air pollution. EPD teams, under the supervision of Deputy Director Usman Azhar and Inspector Ghulam Mustafa, raided factories engaged in burning expired batteries in Industrial Estate No II and its surrounding areas. The owners of these units did not have any arrangements in place to curb pollution. The deputy director revealed that residents of Muhafiz Town and Wapda Town had registered complaints on the Pakistan Citizen Portal. Punjab Environment Protection Minister Muhammad Rizwan directed EPD officials to review the complaints and take immediate action.
