RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) DIG Faisal Rana has directed officers to take strict action against those involved in publishing and uploading unethical pictures and videos of women and children on the internet, particularly social media.

He directed this while addressing a meeting of senior police officials. He added that exploiting women and children and uploading pornographic content on social media was a serious crime under the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act 2016.

People who are involved in the practice have bulldozed the moral values of our society, he said.

The CPO further said that suspects committing such crimes should be arrested as soon as possible by using all available investigative and technological tools.

"People who commit such crimes are morally bankrupt," he added.

The CPO said that such videos were made either to blackmail the victim or to fulfil sexual desires. If a victim attempts to raise their voice against the perpetrator, he uploads their videos and pictures on the internet to defame them.

DIG Rana said that it was the responsibility of the police to provide a sense of protection to the victims of such crimes while they should make all-out efforts to immediately arrest the suspects. He added that such incidents can put the lives of an entire family at risk.

They [cybercrimes] can only be curtailed if every citizen plays their due role, the CPO said, adding that they were implementing guidelines issued by the chief minister in this regard.

The CPO said that any first information report (FIR) registered of any such incident should be brought to his notice immediately and expressed that the perpetrators involved in such cases will not be spared irrespective of how powerful they were.
