Yemen's Houthis attack military positions at Saudi Abha and Jizan airports

Earlier, Pakistan condemned an attack by Yemeni rebels that killed one, injured 21 others on Sunday night

Yemen’s Houthi group attacked military positions and aircraft hangars at Saudi Arabia’s Abha and Jizan airports, the group’s Al Masirah TV said on Tuesday, citing a military spokesman.

There was no immediate confirmation from Saudi authorities.

The Houthis, who ousted the Saudi-backed internationally recognised government from power in the Yemeni capital Sanaa in late 2014, have stepped up missile and drone attacks on Saudi cities this month.

Earlier, Pakistan strongly condemned yet another attack by Yemeni rebels on a civilian airport in southern Saudi Arabia, resulting in one death and injuries to 21 others on Sunday night.

The strike was carried out by Yemeni rebels, a Riyadh-led coalition said, in a new escalation following a series of strikes on the site.

In May, Saudi Arabia’s air defence forces intercepted a drone armed with explosives which had been launched by Yemen’s Houthis and aimed at an airport in the south of the kingdom.

The aircraft had been targeting the airport in Jizan, close to the border with Yemen, state-owned SPA said, citing a statement from a Saudi-led coalition that has been battling the Houthis in Yemen.
