Traders shut down Saddar markets to protest heavy taxes

The protesters had earlier decided to march towards the cantonment head-office

RAWALPINDI: All the main markets in the Saddar area of Rawalpindi were shut down on Monday as the traders’ union protested against various taxes imposed by the cantonment board.

A large number of traders disrupted traffic on the Mall Road as they chanted slogans against the cantonment administration and heavy property and board taxes which they have imposed.

Traders blame CDA for encroachment in city

A number of rallies from different markets comprising different traders’ unions converged at Unique Bakers on Kashmir Road. The protesters had earlier decided to march towards the cantonment head-office, however, that decision was reversed after the cantonment administration invited the traders for a discussion over their charter of demands.
