Members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Sindh Assembly on Monday filed a petition in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in Karachi, seeking the disqualification of Faryal Talpur as member of the provincial assembly, Radio Pakistan reported.

The petition urged that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader should be disqualified as she was facing charges of fake accounts, money laundering and corruption.

PTI members Haleem Adil Sheikh and Arsalan Taj filed the petition.

NAB had no ulterior motive in Zardari arrest: IHC

“Talpur is facing charges in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and as such, cannot hold the assembly membership,” added the petition.

Talking to the media representatives after filing the petition, Sheikh said anybody involved in corruption would face the inquiry and would be taken to task for his or her crimes.

Talpur, the sister of former president Asif Ali Zardari, was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials in Islamabad on June 14 in connection with a case pertaining to money laundering through fake accounts.

Earlier, the IHC had dismissed pre-arrest bail requests filed by Zardari and Talpur. The NAB later arrested the PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari from his residence in Islamabad on June 10.
