ATLANTIC CITY: Jhonny Gonzalez will defend his World Boxing Council featherweight crown against Mexican compatriot Tomas Villa as part of a July 9 card. Promoters announced that Gonzalez, who took his crown from Japan’s Hozumi Hasegawa with a fourth-round stoppage last April in Kobe, would join the card in Atlantic City’s famed Boardwalk Hall. “I will go out there and do what fans love to see from their fighters, look to knock Villa out cold,” said Gonzalez. Gonzalez is 48-7 with 42 knockouts and has won eight fights in a row over the past two years while Villa, 23-7 with four drawn and 14 knockouts, will return to the ring after a layoff of more than a year.
