ISLAMABAD: The private party in Thalian joint venture housing scheme has sought three more months from the government to resolve the issue of road access to the long-delayed housing project.

Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF), which falls under the ministry of housing and works, had issued notice for cancelling the agreement of the joint venture with the private builder over lack of progress in the Thalian Housing Scheme.

The project under the joint venture had started for federal employees in September 2016 over an area of 10,000 kanals.

The private builder was bound to give possession to employees in 24 months. However, the developer could not deliver the project in stipulated time owing to some legal issues.

The main problem though remained the route to the housing society.

Finally FGEHF decided to cancel the joint venture agreement, after which the private partner briefed the situation in housing foundation and sought three months for the resolution of problem availability of road.

The government has accepted the developer’s plea and granted further three-month time.

Burma Bridge

Capital Development Authority (CDA) will start construction of long awaited Burma Bridge at Lehtrar Road by next month.

CDA Chairman has approved the tender notices and has directed to issue tender notices in national dailies within next two days.

The Burma Bridge over Lehtrar Raod which was built in 1950s was on verge of collapse. Dilapidated condition of the bridge was a life threat to motorists.

Due to its condition, authorities concerned, nearly seven years ago, had stopped all kinds of movement on the bridge to avoid any untoward incident.

People living around the site had filled several applications to repair the bridge but their requests were not heeded.

Furthermore, due to closure and dilapidated condition of the bridge traffic jam was a daily routine in the area.

The project was stuck for last many years, however, incumbent management in line with its policy to priorities the stalled projects and cognising importance of the project taken up the matter and not only revived the project but also made budget allocation in this regard.

After swift completion of codal formalities, tenders notices for awarding the contract have now been approved.

The construction of the bridge will be completed with the estimated cost of Rs199 million. Construction of this bridge will facilitate the commuters going to and coming from Kotli Satian, Bunn Karor, Tumair, Alipur Farash, Murree, Abbottabaod, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
