Women face many types of harassment, says official

The University of Education holds a seminar titled ‘Awareness regarding Women Harassment in Educational Institutions’

Women face many types of harassment, including sexual harassment, in their professional life, said Chief Minister’s Task Force on Women Empowerment Chairperson Tanzeela Imran Khan.

She expressed these views at a seminar titled ‘Awareness regarding Women Harassment in Educational Institutions’ at the University of Education where she was the chief guest on Tuesday.

University of Education Vice Chancellor Dr Rauf-i-Azam and a large number of students and faculty members also attended the meeting.

Speaking at the seminar, she stressed that harassment of all types should be condemned at every level. She maintained that the present government was trying its level best to implement the Protection against Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2010 so that women and children do not face any adverse situation.

Women are a symbol of strength rather than weakness as she nurtures families and future generations, she expressed. “Women must be given respect and must be offered protection by the state and society.”

She highlighted that any woman in Punjab is free to contact her if she is facing any form harassment.

Addressing the seminar, University of Education Vice Chancellor Dr Rauf-i-Azam said that society must be trained and educated on ethical grounds, while ensuring the implementation of relevant laws to eradicate female harassment.

He stated that laws must be used honestly. “Misusing the law can cause further harm to the situation,” he said. He thanked the chairperson for creating awareness against women harassment and ensuring the development of women across the province.
