BHAKKAR: More than 1,100 officials in the police department will be screened for diseases during this week. Staff from Bhakkar District Headquarters Hospital will take blood samples from the officials.

Bhakkar District Police Officer Shaista Nadeem sent a letter to the Health CEO. The main purpose behind the screening campaign is to diagnose diseases that officials may have contracted and to provide them with proper medical treatment.

If any disease is detected, the police department will pay for that official’s medical treatment. Two years ago, a screening was organised during which 13 officials were diagnosed with hepatitis and the cost of their medical treatment was borne by the police department.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, the DPO highlighted that 848 police constables, 108 hawaldars, 86 assistant sub inspectors, 48 sub inspectors, 13 inspectors and four DSPs would be screened. The primary purpose of the screening is to diagnose officials for diseases that they may not be aware of.

“Healthy police officials will be able to play an effective role in preventing crimes,” she said. She added that the screenings are free-of-charge by the health department. Ensuring the health of police officials is imperative in ensuring a healthy society, she said.
