Did you know that Prince Harry was apparently warned not to marry Meghan Markle by his grandfather Prince Phillip?
According to The Sun, The Duke of Edinburgh is said to have told the Duke of Sussex that, “One steps out with actresses; one doesn’t marry them.”
The bombshell was dropped over the weekend while Phillip and Harry celebrating their first Father’s Day together.
Although the duo is believed to share a close bond, the outspoken 98-year-old is reported to have warned his grandson of the dangers of marrying former Suits actor, Meghan.
And this was not the first time he had has waded into discussions on the topic of marriage. Prince Phillips in 1997 said, “Tolerance is the one essential ingredient. You can take it from me that the Queen has the quality of tolerance in abundance.” The alleged remark featured in a Sunday Times Magazine article by Sophie Money-Coutts.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl has previously claimed a feud arose between Princes William and Harry over the elder brother's fears of the latter’s relationship with Meghan developing “too quickly.”
Speaking in a TLC documentary on the royals, Katie said, “William was quite concerned that the relationship had moved so quickly. And being close to Harry, you know, probably the only person close enough to say to Harry, ‘This seems to be moving quickly, are you sure’?"
She added, “And I think what was meant as well-intended brotherly advice just riled Harry up.”
Unsurprisingly, Buckingham Palace has so far declined to comment on Philip's alleged statement about Meghan. Prince Philip attended Harry and Meghan's wedding in May last year amid speculation he would miss the big day while recovering from a hip replacement operation. The Duke of Edinburgh was also one of the first to meet Meghan and Harry’s newborn son after his birth in May.
