Jashan-e-Dir sports festival from June 20

District sports official says all preparations have been finalised

PESHAWAR: Residents of Upper Dir are gearing up to celebrate the eleventh edition of the Jashan-e-Dir Royal Shakir Sports Festival. The festival is due to commence from June 20, under the aegis of the district administration, district government and the Upper Dir District Sports and Youth Officer at the Upper Dir Sports Complex.

This was disclosed by the Upper Dir District Sports and Youth Officer Mukhtiar Hussain while speaking to The Express Tribune on Friday. He said that arrangements to hold the Jashan-e-Dir Royals Shakir Sports Festival have been finalised.

The festival, which is an annual feature for Upper Dir and consists of a Twenty20 cricket tournament, football, volleyball, basketball, badminton, athletics, tug-of-war, snooker, hockey and martial arts including Taekwondo, Judo, Karate, and Wushu.

Hussain said that more than 1,800 players are expected to take part in the festival. Draws for each of the sporting disciplines in the festival are expected to take place on June 18 at the festival venue. All those clubs who have so far not registered will have to go through the qualifying round on June 16.
