Cricket screenings win hearts in Bhakkar

Large screens have been set up in all four tehsils of the district

Cricket fever has spread to Bhakkar district, where lovers of the sport can now enjoy watching World Cup matches on a large screen and in an air-conditioned environment.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Bhakkar Deputy Commisioner Waqas Rasheed said that the purpose behind the move is to promote recreational activities in the district. He maintained that all resources are being utilised to facilitate the people.

Therefore, for the avid cricket fans, large screens have been set up in all four tehsils including Darya Khan, Mankera, Kallar Kot and Bhakkar. Matches are also screened at the Bhakkar District Council Hall. For the first time ever, Bhakkar’s residents will be able to experience matches in a relaxing atmosphere free-of-charge, he said.

Further, officials from the municipal committee have been directed to make arrangements for beverages and other refreshments on the days Pakistan is playing, he stated. In addition, the officials concerned have been directed to ensure all the arrangements at these halls, especially for the match between India and Pakistan, he explained.

The deputy commissioner expressed that he will also watch all of Pakistan’s matches and stated that he is rooting for the country.

The screenings have attracted large crowds of adoring fans who are eager to watch the matches in all their glory on large screens. Cricket fans said that they greatly appreciated the step taken by the district administration in this regard for providing people with recreational activities. The screenings will surely double the thrill of watching the ICC Cricket World Cup, they said.

This is the first time such an activity has been initiated in Bhakkar, they said. It will surely make the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 a memorable tournament, they maintained.
