KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) rejected the federal budget presented by the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on June 11, terming it as another failure of the PTI government.

Speaking at a press conference, Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Information, Law and Anti-corruption Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani and Works and Services Minister Nasir Hussain Shah termed the budget as "anti-people." They lambasted PTI for presenting an "anti-people" budget when it had been claiming to transform Pakistan into a welfare state similar to Madina all this while.

They claimed that the budget has been dictated by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and stressed that it would add to the hardships of the people who were already facing difficulties due to the policies of the "incompetent" PTI government.

According to Wahab, the budget would increase problems for the working class as no relief or subsidy has been provided for the people in the budget. He said that imposing a tax on those earning a salary of Rs50,000 would compel people to take to the streets. PPP has decided to stand by them in their fight for their rights, he added.

Referring to Prime Minister Imran Khan's speech after the budget, Wahab said that the "selected prime minister" repeatedly remarked that PTI would not give the NRO to anyone but contrary to these statements the party has in fact given NRO to "Aleema Baji." He said that neither did PPP expect to be given an NRO nor did it need any.

The PPP leaders claimed that cases against Zardari were fake and baseless, and PTI was taking revenge in the name of accountability. They maintained that PTI should also take steps to investigate the damage it has caused during the ten months of its rule and demanded that a commission be made to investigate cases of corruption since 1999.

Members of PPP also claimed that PTI is a party of corrupts, accusing President Arif Alvi and Defence Minister Pervez Khattak of spending funds collected from the public on election campaigns.
