Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz has said that separate laws prevailed in the country for masses and the prime minister, who she claimed came into power by stealing the public mandate.

“Fake prime minister [Imran Khan] used to say there were separate laws for rich and poor in Pakistan, but the fact is that there is one law for rich and poor and the other for the selected PM,” she said while addressing a rally in Zafarwal neighbourhood of Punjab's Narowal district on Wednesday.

Maryam claimed the prime minister pays Rs100,000 despite living in a three-kanal palace, adding that no institution, including the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), had the audacity to file an assets beyond means case against him.

“No institution has courage to lodge a case against a person who has never done any business and never bothered doing a job and whose family never tried earning a living.”

‘Fake PM won’t be able to dodge his accountability by arresting rivals'

She said application PM Imran files in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) are heard within ‘five minutes’, and on the other hand years have gone past since an appeal was filed against him and nothing has happened against the blue-eyed boy of the power that be.

“Someone who has come into power by stealing votes would never stand for the rights of people. He didn’t even bother asking wellbeing of parents who lost their infants at a Sahiwal hospital due to air-conditioning malfunction,” said the PML-N leader.

She claimed that at a time of need, the premier would abandon his countrymen. “This shameless person is congratulating his power minister over electricity loadshedding, which was eradicated by Nawaz Sharif. This government hasn’t added a single megawatt to the national grid … he [PM Imran] is shamelessly inaugurating Nawaz Sharif’s projects.”

She added that despite the passage of 10 months into power, the premier is still shouting names of Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif.

“He [PM Imran] talks about forming commission to probe debt piled up in the last 10 years but doesn’t have the courage to audit loans acquired during the Musharraf’s era … his own government, on the other hand, has broken all previous records of acquiring loans during its first 10 months in power.”

Maryam said that the inquiry commission will be formed, but to probe incompetence of the Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government. “You will be held answerable for your performance.”

The PML-N leader said that from now on, governments would only come and go with people’s vote only. “It’s only their right to elect anyone to power and no conspiracy would be allowed to succeed in this connection. People will stand for their rights and restore sanctity of vote and democracy.”

Commenting on the PTI government’s first Federal Budget 2019-20, presented in the National Assembly on Tuesday, she said: “How would low-income families survive after yesterday’s anti-poor budget? These rulers have no idea how masses manage to survive with the ever-increasing inflation.

“What would this incompetent prime minister say when questioned reasons for high prices of commodities? Would he say that he has arrested Nawaz Sharif, Asif Zardari and others opposition leaders.”

Speaking about cases being faced by Sharif family, Nawaz Sharif’s daughter said that after failing to find any proof of corruption against the three-time prime minister, they [PTI government] are now lodging a reference on use of bullet-proof vehicles during the fight against terrorism when the then premier faced serious security threats.

Maryam said her father is being persecuted for making Pakistan self-sufficient. “He is still steadfast despite being behind bars at the age of 70.”

The PML-N leader also chastised the prime minister for taking his family and friends on Umrah pilgrimage on tax payers’ money. “Even Foreign Minister [Shah Mehmood Qureshi] was not allowed to sit on the same plane Imran Khan and his family were travelling in.”

Commenting on a reference filed against two judges of superior courts, Maryam said the ‘incompetent premier’ had the audacity to file a reference against a pious judge like Justice Qazi Faez Isa. “This coward attacks from behind as he filed the reference through the president.”

“He is so coward that he barred TV channels from talking about the reference against Justice Isa through Pemra,” she added.
