Funds allocated for Polyclinic extension, improvements

ISLAMABAD: Even though the federal government halved the budget for the health division, it earmarked funds to build a 200-bed hospital, a veterinary hospital and a nursing unit in the federal capital apart from upgrading facilities at different medical institutions in the city.

The budget documents show that Rs26.049 million have been allocated for the construction of a nursing hospital at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), the largest tertiary care, government-run hospital in the federal capital.

A further Rs56.892 million were allocated for setting up a waste management plant (incinerator) at Pims in line with directions from the Supreme Court. Further, Rs30.45 million have been allocated for installing new refrigerators at the mortuary in Pims. Another Rs545 million have been for upgrading and replacing the air-conditioning (HVAC) plant at Pims Additionally, Rs59.9 million have been allocated for the Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) department at Pims. Moreover, the government has allocated Rs8.13 million for upgrading the non-radiation endoscopy diagnostic service at the hospital. The government has also set aside Rs150 million for bringing about an overall improvement in the operations of Pims. Another Rs50 million have been allocated for improving the nephrology department at the hospital while Rs100 million have been allocated for upgrading the gastroenterology department at Pims.

The government also allocated Rs47.896 million to conduct a survey and complete the feasibility study for the extension of the Federal Government Hospital (Polyclinic). The government has also allocated Rs50 million for improving the intensive care unit (ICU) at Polyclinic and another million rupees for bringing about improvements in the ENT department of the hospital.

Further, the government has allocated Rs590.48 million for improving the mother and child health (MCH) service centre at Polyclinic. Additionally, Rs538.12 million have been allocated for improving the radiology department at Polyclinic It has also allocated Rs100 million to procure new electro-medical equipment for the National Institute of Rehabilitative Medicine (NIRM).

The government has also set aside Rs300 million for upgrading rural health facilities in Islamabad. To set up a 200-bed hospital in the capital, the government has set aside a sum of Rs10 million to conduct the feasibility study for the project. The budget documents further revealed that Rs10.5 million have been set aside for building a veterinary hospital in the federal capital.
