Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry said sending the supremos of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to prison for their alleged corruption was an important chapter of the electoral promises Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) made during its election campaign.

The minister took to Twitter on Tuesday and said, “The heads of the parties who embezzled billions of rupees have reached prison. This is not an ordinary thing.”

According to Fawad, the next step should be to recover the money that was sent out of the country.

Zardari arrested in fake accounts case

Former president Asif Ali Zardari was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday hours after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) recalled the pre-arrest bail granted to him and his sister Faryal Talpur in the fake accounts case.

Zardari was taken into NAB custody from his residence in the federal capital in the afternoon. However, NAB has not arrested Talpur because there were no arrest warrants against her.

Nawaz, meanwhile, is serving a seven-year sentence imposed last year for failing to disclose the source of income that allowed him to acquire the Al-Azizia Steel Mills in Saudi Arabia.

Nawaz found guilty in Al-Azizia reference, acquitted in Flagship

The Supreme Court on July 28, 2017, disqualified Nawaz in Panama Papers case and ordered NAB to file separate cases which were respectively called Avenfiled, Al-Azizia and Flagship references.

Nawaz and his family members were also convicted in Avenfield case.
