SECP registers 280 companies in May

KARACHI: The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) registered 280 companies during the month of May, which took the total corporate portfolio to 55,795 companies.

The authorised capital and paid-up capital of the 280 companies is Rs1,974 million and Rs320 million respectively.

The new incorporations in May consist of six public unlisted companies, 260 private companies, 11 single-member companies and three associations not for profit under Section 42 of the Companies Ordinance, 1984.

The Company Registration Office (CRO), Lahore, registered the highest number of 108 companies, accounting for 39 per cent of the new incorporations.

CRO Karachi and Islamabad also registered comparatively larger number of companies at 72 and 69, respectively.

The CROs of Peshawar, Faisalabad, Multan, Quetta and Sukkur registered 12, 11, five, two and one company respectively.

Sector-wise details reveal that the highest number of 47 companies has been registered in the services sector, closely followed by 42 companies in the trading sector.

Other sectors where a significant number of new incorporations has taken place are tourism with 22 companies, information technology 19 companies, pharmaceuticals 17 companies, construction 16 companies, communications 11 companies and food and beverages 10 companies.

A public unlisted company in the miscellaneous sector has been registered with the highest authorised capital of Rs250 million, followed by two private limited companies, one in the leather sector with authorised capital of Rs241 million and the other in the construction sector with capital of Rs200 million. In addition, four companies have been registered with authorised capital of Rs100 million each and five companies have authorised capital of Rs50 million each.

During May, 54 companies raised their authorised capital with a total increase of Rs12.5 billion and 110 companies increased their paid-up capital with a total increment of Rs21.3 billion.
