The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is an impartial institution which will continue the accountability process without fear and discord, Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal said on Monday, Express News reported.

“Our attention has shifted towards mega corruption. The action will gradually reduce corruption at the lower levels. An impression is being given that the business community and investors are in fear due to NAB. However, the business community and non-investors should continue positive work without any fear," he stated.

The NAB chairman further said that the fundamental work of the anti-graft watchdog is against corruption in public funds and government officials.

NAB cannot be dictated: Javed Iqbal

“NAB in no way is against people contributing positively to the country’s economy. People working for the betterment of the country will have no complaints from NAB," reiterated the chairman.

In May, Iqbal had stated that the watchdog could not be dictated by anyone. Defending NAB, he said the watchdog was well within the constitutional framework to operate and its primary objective is to bring back the nation’s looted wealth. He pinned blame on corruption, adding that “the country would not be knee-deep in debts if past leaders had not multiplied their wealth through illegal means”.
