ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad high Court (IHC) Tuesday set aside the detention orders of seven men picked up on terrorism charges, setting them free.

The men were detained by the Islamabad police after Islamabad Deputy Commissioner issued their detention orders on March 29. On June 20, they challenged their detention in court. IHC Chief Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman set aside the detention orders after hearing the arguments.

The men were first arrested by Saddar Barauni police on January 29, 2009 from Dhoke Lakhan, near Dhamial Army Aviation Base, from a house. They were found to be in possession of more than over 100 kg of explosive material, 20 sacks of potassium chloride and a number of detonators.

They were presented in court on charges of carrying explosive material, attacking Danish embassy, and abetting the killing of Army Surgeon General Mushtaq Baig in a suicide attack at Mall Road on February 25, 2008. Due to lack of evidence, they were acquitted on April 14, 2010.

The seven men are: Muhammad Rizwan, resident of Karachi, Dr Abdul Razzaq, resident of Lahore, Faisal Ahmed Khan,  resident of Bhakar, Zeeshan Jalil, resident of Karachi, Muhammad Sarfaraz alias Muhammad Khan, resident of Karachi, Muhammad Naeem Shakir, resident of Sheikhupura, Muhammad Nadeem alias Babu Salahuddin, resident of Rawalpindi, and Osama bin Waheed, resident of Bhakar.
