KARACHI: A local court accepted on Tuesday the challan against five accused in the Nashwa case.

Owner of Darul Sehat Hospital (DUSH) Dr Ali Farhan appeared before the court. Nashwa's father, Qaiser Ali, also appeared before the court.

The court inquired how Nashwa died.

Ali said he had taken his nine-mont- old daughter, Nashwa, to DUSH as she was sick. The doctors prescribed the injection after her check-up. Nurse Sobia prepared the injection and Agha Moiz administered it to her. The infant was paralysed after the injection was administered. The doctors then shifted her to the intensive care unit (ICU) and she underwent a course of treatment but her condition deteriorated. She was then transferred to Liaquat National Hospital where she died.

The court asked which doctor was on duty at DUSH when the injection was administered to Nashwa. Dr Attiya was on duty, replied Ali. "We kept asking the hospital to give in writing that a wrong injection has been administered to Nashwa," he added.

The court was informed about the settlement which had been reached between Ali and the hospital administration. DUSH has promised to establish a ward in Nashwa's name and to set up a fund for the treatment of the underprivileged.

The court directed that a copy of the settlement should be provided to the court. The copy of the settlement was submitted before the court.

The court accepted the challan filed against the accused. DUSH staffers who prepared and administered the injection, the ward in-charge and other staffers have been implicated in the challan.

The court said that these accused will be tried in court and directed them to submit Rs500,000 as personal surety. The prosecutor termed all accused, except Moiz and Sobia, innocent. East judicial magistrate accepted the challan submitted by police.
