RAWALPINDI: A large number of Muslims in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi streamed to large mosques in their respective neighbourhoods on Sunday to start a 10-day-long residency in the mosques for Aitekaf to see out the holy month of Ramazan.

After sunset on Ramazan 20, devotees will formally enter mosques and will remain in a state of seclusion at designated places until the sighting of the Eid moon.

All major mosques of city and cantonment have completed the registration process for those who intend to seclude themselves. The credentials of those seeking to observe aitekaf were crosschecked by the security agencies.

A large number of women will also observe aitekaf within their homes.

All mosques in the garrison city have made arrangements for the sehri and iftari of devotees while security has also been beefed up around grand mosques.

Police personnel and volunteers have been deployed at entrances of mosques to avert possible terror acts and to check all those entering mosques.
