PTI starts interviews of candidates from tribal districts

Panel quizzes aspirants from Khyber who want party tickets for upcoming provincial assembly polls

PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) selection board on Saturday started interviews of candidates to be fielded in the upcoming polls in the tribal districts for sixteen general seats as well as reserved seats for women and minorities in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly.

Applications from prospective candidates have already been filed by the tribal leadership.

The panel for conducting interviews of the provincial seats from the erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) consists of K-P Governor Shah Farman, Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Noorul Haq Qadri, and PTI’s Central General Secretary Arshad Dad.

In first phase, interviews of a total of 32 candidates from the PK-105 Khyber-I, PK-106 Khyber-II, PK-107 Khyber-III constituencies of Khyber district were conducted, a source told The Express Tribune.

For two constituencies of Bajaur – PK-100 Bajaur-I and PK-101 Bajaur-II – respectively 100 and 41 candidates have filed their papers.

For two constituencies of Mohmand, a woman has filed her nomination papers. For K-P-103 Mohmand-I, a total of 22 candidates, and for PK-104 Mohmand-II, a total of 28 have filed their nomination papers.

In Kurram district, 42 candidates have applied for PK-108 Kurram-I constituency, and 21 candidates have filed their papers for PK-109 constituency. A woman has also joined the contest for the reserved seats in the provincial assembly.

In Orakzai district, a total of 26 candidates has filed their nomination papers for PK-110 constituency.

Some 28 candidates have applied for PTI ticket for PK-111 North Waziristan-I constituency; 26 people have applied for PK-112 North Waziristan-II constituency; 35 have filed papers for PK-113 South Waziristan-I and 22 candidates have submitted their nomination papers for on PK-144 S Waziristan-II.

Thirteen candidates have filed their papers for PK-115 Ex-Frontier regions. The total numbers of applications is 435 but only three women have applied for reserved seats.
