It seems as though celebrities wait for Cannes Film Festival to show off their best and most different looks each passing year. From caped gowns to full-sleeved dresses, neon to monochrome pieces and frills to feathers, this time was no different. As stars from far and wide bedazzled at this year's edition, a myriad of trends were spotted on the red carpet, both good and bad.

While the feather fad might have been a bit of an overkill and some ladies looked as if they belonged in a menagerie, others sported outfits that can be written down in the best dressed of Cannes history.

Let's take a look at how celebrities put together some of 2019's hottest trends.

Feeling frills

Frills, frills and more frills. But we still didn't get an overdose because some divas definitely up the ante with this bold trend.
Sonam Kapoor

All eyes were on the Bollywood starlet in her first look from the festival. Donning a strapless red figure-hugging Valentino, Sonam spiced things up by layering a high neck sheer gown with frill detailing. A loose styled braid topped with white flowers rounded off her look.

Bella Hadid

Well, what can we say? The supermodel looked breath-taking as she took over Cannes in a Dior gown. Honing in on an ultra-feminine style, the fashionista strutted the dress made of pleated sheer tulle ruffles and featured an asymmetrical hem and halter neckline.

Who worked it better?

This is an almost impossible choice but we have to go with Bella for this one.

2. Feather fantasy

That's right. The fluffy fringe was the star of the event, lining necklines and covering long trains. And, it wasn't only present on floor-sweeping gowns. Feather embellishments were also found on party-ready skirts. Don't waste any time getting in on this trend, because it's a red hot for the season!

Madison Beer

Showing us how it's done, she aced this stunning dress from Georges Hobeika. The singer, who is fast becoming a household name, was our absolute favourite at the fest. She totally gave us dark princess vibes as the textured tulle skirt created a dreamy movement.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

After looking like quite the killer mermaid in a confusing metallic yellow dress, the Bollywood star made a refreshing change in an Ashi Studio white feathered dress. However, it kind of looks like something from the 1960s and definitely needs to be modernised.

Who worked it better?

Hands down, Madison!

3. Monochrome madness

Sharp monochrome looks ruled over Cannes this year. We can't get over celebrities wowing us in all-white or all-black ensembles, be it gowns or pant suits.

Black

In the black realm, Bollywood starlets had us floored. Deepika Padukone, a favourite at Cannes, combined all the trends in her outfit - black, tulle and a pop of neon. Priyanka Chopra stunned in a  heavily embellished Roberto Cavalli gown, while Huma Qureshi made a solid fashion statement in Ralph Lauren's Sexy Black.

Who worked it better?

It's a close one, but Huma surely led the pack.

White

White is so fresh, classic and feminine. And, there's no denying B-town girls did complete justice to the crisp colour. While Deepika looked striking in a puffed up gown by Peter Dundas, Priyanka looked like it was her wedding all over again, literally donning a bridal number from Georges Hobeika's latest collection. Huma cut a sleek figure in the cape trend and we absolutely loved her look!

Who worked it better?

We can't get over Deepika's distinctive look. The Padmaavat star brought definitely brought something new to Cannes.
