Punjab police ink MoU with UHS

Agreement will help improve the efficiency of police officials

LAHORE: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was inked between the Punjab police and the University of Health Sciences to enhance bilateral cooperation. The MoU will help to improve the efficiency of officials from the Punjab police in forensic science.

UHS Vice Chancellor Dr Javed Akram led the delegation from the varsity while Additional IG Tariq Masood Yaseen, DIG Crime Jawad Ahmed Dogar, CTO Lahore Liaqat Ali Malik and other officials were also present at the occasion.

Speaking at the ceremony, Punjab Police Inspector General Arif Nawaz said that in order to meet the challenges of modern policing, officials need to be trained in accordance with modern and professional parameters. He maintained that the MoU will enhance the capabilities of investigation officers with respect to forensic science and will also impact citizens’ lives.

Under the MoU, investigation officers will not only collect evidence from crime scenes but will also be trained on how to archive the evidence. He stated that such evidence will be helpful in examining witnesses and can be used effectively during investigations, enabling officials to serve efficiently.

These life kits can save the lives of many citizens on the roads and precautionary measures will be ensured.



He maintained that this was the start of a long term partnership and with the help of the MoU, instructors at the varsity will deliver lectures on forensic science at schools and colleges to train officials.

Meanwhile, medical experts from the university will participate in traffic police awareness camps and will educate citizens about the different types of medicines that should be avoided while driving, he explained.

He added that teams from the varsity will also screen the blood of police officials in all districts across the province and will also undertake research regarding provision of facilities at police lines. He said that a four-member joint committee, consisting of two members from each organisation, will monitor and initiate all initiatives with respect to bilateral cooperation.
