Sophie Turner calls petition to remake 'GoT' season eight 'disrespectful'

The 23-year-old actor finally broke silence over the criticism being directed at the show

Unless you've been living under a rock, you would know that the fanatically popular Game of Thrones has come to an end after eight seasons.

But the show's last few episodes have been receiving a hoard of negative views from fans and critics alike. A petition has also signed by almost one million unhappy fans, calling for a remake of the final season.

Despite this, Sophie Turner - aka Sansa Stark - has mostly kept tight-lipped over the outrage. But now, she has finally broken her silence over the petition and also reveals her reaction to her character being crowned the Queen in the North.

The 23-year-old spoke her mind and deemed the call for a remake  "disrespectful."

“All of these petitions and things like that — I think it’s disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the film-makers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season. Like 50-something night shoots. So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it’s not what they want to see is just disrespectful," she said in an interview with the New York Times.

"Honestly, I’m not surprised. People always have an idea in their heads of how they want a show to finish, and so when it doesn’t go according to their liking, they start to speak up about it and rebel. The thing about Game of Thrones that’s always been amazing is the fact that there’s always been crazy twists and turns, right from season one with Ned’s beheading."

The star also referred to Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke, who's dragon-riding character took a total U-turn from heroine to baddie. "Daenerys becoming something of the Mad Queen — it shouldn’t be such a negative thing for fans. It’s a shock for sure, but I think it’s just because it hasn’t gone their way."

"It was kind of the perfect ending for her,” Sophie continued. "I loved it. It’s the only place that she really, truly feels safe. It’s the place that she’s the most capable of ruling. She would be a fair and loving ruler, and it’s what she’s been striving for this whole series: to go back home, to protect her home. And finally she has that."
