PESHAWAR: The provincial government has slammed the past governments for driving the country into the economic crisis it finds itself mired in today.

This was stated by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Information Minister Shaukat Yousafzai on Monday in a video statement while reacting to the joint opposition confab. During the opposition meeting, over an iftar-dinner, it was decided that a combined agitation movement against the government will be launched after Eidul Fitr.

Yousafzai stated that those parties who had looted the country for the past 35 years could not launch a movement against the government because the public had already rejected these parties in the last general elections.

He went on to ask what the opposition parties had done for the welfare of the people during their respective regimes and on what pretext would they contact people and urge them to join their protest movement.

The K-P information added that these parties had completely failed to address their problems and in fact, past governments were responsible for plundering the national exchequer.

He said that children of plunderers should tell the nation where were the Rs30 trillion in borrowed money, what were they spent on, and how did they manage to amass such expensive assets in foreign countries without any known sources of incomes.

Taking aim at Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and ANP chief Asfandyar Wali, Yousafzai claimed that the two were now afraid of facing the accountability process which deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif and former president Asif Ali Zardari were facing.
